Barclays: S&P 500 Earnings Expected to Grow 26.5%, Earnings Beats Are the Key to Stock Price

Source: www.techflowpost.com
According to Chaoxiang Research, a Barclays report dated October 12, 2026, indicates that third-quarter earnings per share (EPS) for the S&P 500 are expected to grow 26.5% year over year, with a forward P/E ratio of approximately 19x, down from 20.3x last quarter. 53% of index constituents remain below their 200-day moving averages, and the top 10 stocks account for 25% of the index weight and 74% of earnings revisions. Barclays concludes that in a higher-yield environment, market returns are closely tied to earnings delivery. Companies beating earnings estimates capture greater upside, while those missing face harsher penalties. The period following midterm elections historically favors technology and quality stocks. Barclays maintains its S&P 500 price target at $7,950.
