Riot Platforms Sells 9,665 BTC in First Half of Year, Holdings Drop to 11,380 BTC as It Pivots to AI Infrastructure

Bitcoin mining company Riot Platforms disclosed that it sold 4,300 BTC in the second quarter of 2026, bringing total first-half sales to 9,665 BTC. As of June 30, the company held 11,380 BTC, of which 5,821 BTC had been pledged as collateral for existing loans. Riot Platforms mined 1,587 BTC in the second quarter, with an average cost of $49,912 per BTC, excluding depreciation. Quarterly revenue reached $174.2 million, up 14% year-over-year. The company's cash balance stood at $548.9 million, of which $77.5 million was restricted, with liquid assets totaling approximately $1.2 billion. Riot Platforms is pivoting from pure Bitcoin mining to AI and high-performance computing infrastructure, having signed a 20-year, 191-megawatt lease agreement with Anthropic. The agreement is expected to generate approximately $9.1 billion in revenue for the company by 2048, and the company has already begun earning revenue from data center tenant fit-out and operating leases.
