Basel Committee: Banks' crypto asset exposure stabilizes, Bitcoin's share declines
The Basel Committee on Banking Supervision released statistical data for the second half of 2025. Banks' prudential risk exposure to crypto assets remained broadly flat overall, but the asset composition shifted: in the Americas, Bitcoin's share fell from 75.8% to 44.2%, Ethereum rose to 38.5%, and Solana and XRP accounted for 7.8% and 5.6%, respectively; stablecoin proportions increased in other regions. In the same period, the volume of crypto asset business conducted by banks in the Americas on behalf of clients grew by 93% to €6.4 billion, while that in Europe decreased by 25% to €1.9 billion.
