BIS Publishes Working Paper: Exploring Blockchain-Based Verification Solutions for Official Statistical Data

According to BIS Working Paper 1374 released by the Bank for International Settlements (BIS), the BIS, together with several researchers, has proposed a verifiable framework that binds official statistical data to the blockchain. The solution computes cryptographic fingerprints for SDMX datasets and anchors the digest values to the XRP Ledger, enabling independent verification of data provenance and integrity while leaving existing data publication workflows unaffected. Prototype tests show a data publication latency of approximately 3–5 seconds and a verification latency of approximately 1–2 seconds, meeting the requirements for real-time interactions and automated systems. Since only fingerprints, rather than raw data, are stored on-chain, data confidentiality is preserved. Cost modeling indicates that on-chain fees become negligible after batch processing, with a single ledger record capable of covering thousands of datasets. The study also provides an open-source reference implementation and reserves capacity for future integration of zero-knowledge proofs and AI-driven automated verification.

Ripple Plans to Advance XRP Ledger Post-Quantum Upgrade in Phases

Ripple stated that it is developing a long-term upgrade plan for the XRP Ledger to address the threat of quantum computing, aiming to prevent future quantum computers from potentially breaking existing cryptographic mechanisms and exposing private keys. The plan consists of four phases, including assessing network risks, testing post-quantum cryptography solutions, running existing security mechanisms alongside post-quantum alternatives in parallel, and initiating a complete network migration when necessary.

Nearly 200,000 XRP Stolen, Coreum Cross-Chain Bridge Attacked

Odaily News: The cross-chain bridge connecting XRP Ledger and Coreum was attacked on August 9. The attacker exploited a validation logic vulnerability to steal approximately 199,900 XRP, reducing the bridge's asset balance from roughly 200,400 XRP to 493.5 XRP. The attack did not involve private key leaks and did not target the XRP Ledger protocol itself. The attacker forged deposit operations, causing the bridge system to recognize them as legitimate deposits and triggering the bridge wallet on the other end to send real XRP. On-chain data shows that the attacker completed the fund transfer through 94 multi-signature authorization transactions within 97 minutes. These transactions required signatures from 17 of the 28 relay node keys, allowing the attacker to bypass the bridge's validation mechanism. As of August 11, the Coreum cross-chain bridge remains suspended, and the Coreum Development Foundation has not yet released an official incident report. The XRP mainnet and user private keys remain unaffected and secure.

XRPL Plans to Introduce Privacy Transfer Feature, Targeting Tokenized Asset Market of Over $530 Million

Odaily News: The latest software version 3.3.0 of XRP Ledger (XRPL) introduces several upgrade proposals, including Confidential Transfers. This feature is designed for institutional users, supporting encrypted token balances and transfer amounts while preserving the visibility of accounts and token types. It is primarily applied to Multi-Purpose Tokens (MPT) on XRPL, including tokenized financial assets such as funds and bonds. Through cryptographic technologies like zero-knowledge proofs, the network can verify transaction validity without disclosing specific amounts. XRPL currently holds approximately $1.38 billion in on-chain real-world assets (RWA), including about $845.7 million in RLUSD. In addition to RLUSD, there are over $530 million in tokenized assets on XRPL, involving issuers such as Ondo, VERT Capital, Archax, and Societe Generale. XRPL 3.3.0 also includes five proposals—Batch, Sponsor, Permission Delegation, and Dynamic MPT—addressing institutional needs such as batch transactions, fee sponsorship, permission management, and dynamic adjustments to token attributes. The aforementioned upgrades have not yet been officially launched and will only be activated after receiving support from more than 80% of XRPL's trusted validator nodes for two consecutive weeks.

Ripple reveals eight RLUSD developments involving payments, exchanges, and cross-chain infrastructure

Jack McDonald, Senior Vice President of Ripple's stablecoin business, disclosed eight recent developments regarding RLUSD in a post on X on June 29, covering settlement, regional access, on-chain liquidity, cross-border payments, multi-chain support, exchange listings, charity, and the Japanese market. Mastercard has expanded its settlement capabilities to support RLUSD across eight blockchain networks, including the XRP Ledger. Ripple has also expanded RLUSD's availability in Turkey through partnerships with BiLira, Bitexen, and Bitlo, and collaborated with Bitso to enable RLUSD and MXNB to support liquidity and cross-border transactions via the XRP Ledger's Permissioned DEX. RLUSD has also achieved multi-chain support through Wormhole Native Token Transfers and entered the Japanese market via SBI VC Trade after receiving approval from the Japan Financial Services Agency. Additionally, RLUSD has been listed on exchanges such as Gate and Floq, integrated with the cross-chain infrastructure provider Squid Router, and Ripple has joined Water's GetBlue campaign as its exclusive digital asset and payment partner.

Ripple plans to introduce an institutional-grade lending protocol on XRPL, allowing tokenized assets to be used as collateral for financing.

Ripple is advancing the addition of a lending infrastructure layer on the XRP Ledger (XRPL), enabling institutions to raise funds using on-chain tokenized assets as collateral. The protocol will automatically execute loan terms, while credit evaluation and lending decisions remain handled by off-chain institutions.According to disclosures, the proposal is named the XRPL Lending Protocol (corresponding to XLS-65 and XLS-66 standards). It is currently in the technical draft stage and will require approval through validator voting before launching on the mainnet, but developer testing has already been opened on the test network. The protocol’s design splits the lending process into two parts: on-chain management of liquidity pools, interest calculation, repayment execution, and default handling; while borrower credit assessment and loan term setting remain with traditional financial institutions to meet compliance requirements across different jurisdictions.Ripple states that the mechanism is primarily aimed at institutional short-term liquidity needs. For example, in cross-border payment scenarios, temporary financing through stablecoins or collateral assets can be obtained before settlement is completed, thereby improving capital efficiency.Analysts believe that while the plan attempts to introduce a “rule-enforced lending infrastructure” similar to traditional finance while maintaining XRPL's open network attributes, it will still face competition from established on-chain lending protocols such as Aave, Compound, and Maple. Squid Integrates Ripple's Stablecoin RLUSD, Enabling One-Click Cross-Chain Swaps

Squid, a cross-chain infrastructure platform, has announced the integration of RLUSD, the stablecoin issued by Ripple. Users can now swap into or out of RLUSD in a single transaction across different blockchains and digital assets.Through this integration, RLUSD will gain access to over 100 blockchains and more than 20,000 tokens supported by Squid. Users can directly exchange assets such as USDC, USDT, ETH, and XRP for RLUSD without needing to manually bridge chains, wrap tokens, or execute multiple transactions.RLUSD is natively issued on the XRP Ledger and Ethereum, and has been extended to Ethereum Layer 2 networks such as the XRPL EVM Sidechain, Optimism, Base, Ink, and Unichain via Wormhole's Native Token Transfer standard. Squid's routing layer sits atop these underlying transfer mechanisms, allowing users to utilize RLUSD irrespective of the specific issuance chain.Squid states that its intent-based routing system, which uses market makers to fulfill orders with liquidity on the destination chain, can settle transactions within seconds and is compatible with various cross-chain messaging and issuance standards. Beyond end-users, developers can also integrate RLUSD through Squid's tools for applications including cross-chain payments, treasury management, user onboarding, and DeFi.

Ripple Drives XRP and RLUSD Adoption into the x402 Payment System and Launches XRPL Toolkit

According to CoinDesk, Ripple is attempting to introduce XRP and its stablecoin, Ripple USD, into the AI agent payment market—currently dominated by the dollar-pegged stablecoin USD Coin—in order to penetrate the on-chain micropayment ecosystem. It has launched the “XRPL AI Starter Kit,” a toolkit for developers to build AI agent payment capabilities, enabling agents to perform payments, check balances, and conduct wallet operations on the XRP Ledger, and supporting automated payment workflows based on the x402 protocol. However, Ripple has not yet disclosed any large-scale, production-ready customers or real-world AI agent payment transaction data; the initiative remains in the early infrastructure and developer ecosystem exploration phase.

Ripple Launches XRPL Agentic Payment Toolkit, Positioning for AI-Automated Payment Infrastructure

Ripple has announced a new toolkit for developers to build "agentic payments" applications on the XRP Ledger (XRPL), enabling AI agents to execute automated financial transactions.Ripple stated that AI agents are no longer a future concept; they are already actively participating in paying for computing power, settling invoices, and completing transactions without human intervention. As the application of AI agents expands, the market is accelerating the construction of machine-oriented payment infrastructure, including wallets and stablecoin payment channels, allowing AI to autonomously handle service payments and asset trading. This week, Robinhood also launched a related initiative, allowing users to try stock trading executed by AI agents, with plans to expand into the crypto asset sector in the future; MetaMask has also released a non-custodial wallet solution for AI agents.Ripple pointed out that traditional payment systems are primarily designed for human-initiated and approved processes, whereas AI agents require infrastructure that enables rapid settlement, predictable outcomes, and no need for manual approval. It emphasized that its new toolkit also supports payments based on the x402 protocol, allowing settlement using XRP and Ripple USD (RLUSD).Meanwhile, the IC3 team, composed of researchers from multiple universities, stated that while combining AI with blockchain can achieve automated transactions, AI agents remain highly dependent on humans and the underlying infrastructure and do not possess complete autonomy. XRPL Proposes Upgrade to AMM Mechanism

XRP Ledger developers have submitted a draft amendment titled "AMM Swappable Curves," planning to introduce three types of switchable curves for XRPL's native automated market maker: constant product, concentrated liquidity, and StableSwap, with a programmable Smart AMM to follow. This upgrade aims to allow liquidity providers to choose a more suitable pricing curve based on asset type, thereby improving capital efficiency. Concentrated liquidity is suitable for trading pairs where most transactions are concentrated within a specific price range, while StableSwap is better suited for assets with near 1:1 exchange rates, such as stablecoins or pegged assets. Existing AMM pools will continue to use the current constant product model and do not require migration. This proposal is seen as a crucial step for XRPL to bridge its DeFi infrastructure gap. Currently, there are over $3 billion in tokenized real-world assets on the XRPL chain, including the recent tokenized U.S. Treasury redemption pilot conducted by Ripple and JPMorgan. However, for these assets to be traded, lent, or generate yields more efficiently, a more mature DeFi liquidity infrastructure is still needed. However, the proposal is still in the draft stage. It will need to go through the XRPL amendment voting process, which could take several months, and its eventual approval remains uncertain. (Coindesk)
