Bitcoin's Proposed Soft Fork BIP-54 Completes Specification, F2pool Will Not Support Early Activation

Odaily News: The specification for Bitcoin's proposed soft fork BIP-54 (Consensus Cleanup) was completed in May 2026, aiming to fix four consensus rule boundary issues without adding new Bitcoin features. On August 10, Wang Chun, co-founder of digital asset mining pool F2pool, stated that he does not support BIP-54. He said that if the proposal obtains the required majority through the standard BIP-9 process, F2pool will upgrade its mining nodes, but will not issue a signal of support ahead of time. BIP-54 has been tested in Bitcoin Inquisition, a Signet-based testing environment. Mining pools MARA and ViaBTC have voluntarily produced compatible coinbase transactions; the official activation parameters have not yet been determined, and the mainnet vote has not been completed. Previously, BIP-110, which attempted to restrict certain non-financial data in Bitcoin transactions, failed to gain sufficient miner support and stalled around block height 961,635; BIP-54 does not involve restricting general script functionality. Odaily News – Bitcoin miner MARA Holdings disclosed in its latest quarterly SEC filing that it has pledged 18,750 BTC as collateral for two Bitcoin-backed loans, totaling $750 million in principal.Among these, financing provided by Coinbase Credit includes a refinancing of the original $150 million credit facility plus an additional $300 million in new funds; Two Prime Lending separately provided a $300 million loan. Both loans have been fully drawn, with a combined financing cost of approximately 7.56%, primarily maturing in August 2028.The pledged 18,750 BTC were valued at approximately $1.2 billion at the time of the transaction. If a decline in Bitcoin's price pushes the collateral ratio below the agreed level, MARA could face margin call requirements; otherwise, the related BTC may be subject to liquidation risk. The new funds will mainly be used for general corporate purposes and to support MARA's acquisition of Long Ridge Energy & Power. The transaction has an enterprise value of approximately $1.5 billion. Long Ridge owns a natural gas power plant in Ohio, USA, with an expected installed capacity of 505 MW, along with over 1,600 acres of industrial land. MARA plans to further develop the site into a base for Bitcoin mining, AI, and high-performance computing infrastructure. (Crowdfund Insider)

Bernstein Issues Divergent Ratings on Bitcoin Miners' AI Transition: Positive on CleanSpark's Execution, MARA Awaiting Key Contract

Odaily News - Investment firm Bernstein recently released a report assigning different ratings to two major Bitcoin miners transitioning to AI infrastructure: maintaining an "Outperform" rating on CleanSpark with a price target of $24, and initiating coverage on MARA Holdings with a "Market-Perform" rating and a price target of $17.Bernstein analysts stated that the core reason for the valuation divergence between the two companies lies in their differing progress in executing AI infrastructure transitions. CleanSpark has already signed an anchor tenant agreement for an AI data center and commenced construction, while MARA is still awaiting its first commercial AI contract.Regarding CleanSpark, the company previously announced the signing of a 20-year triple-net lease agreement with a global high-investment-grade technology firm, covering 175MW of IT capacity at its Sandersville, Georgia project. The agreement also includes exclusive cooperation arrangements for CleanSpark's total 885MW asset portfolio in Texas. Bernstein believes that CleanSpark's collaboration with tenant-designated engineering and construction contractors helps mitigate risks associated with its first large-scale AI infrastructure deployment. The first data center hall is expected to become operational in the fourth quarter of 2027.In contrast, Bernstein's assessment of MARA is more cautious. Analysts pointed out that the first commercial AI contract will serve as a key catalyst for a re-rating of MARA's stock, noting that company management previously indicated expectations of signing at least two AI lease agreements by the end of this year. MARA still plans to continue mining in regions where low-cost or surplus energy is economically attractive. Thiel said that MARA began acquiring sites previously hosting mining rigs between late 2023 and early 2024, and by the end of 2024, it had owned infrastructure supporting approximately 70% of its operations. The company then shifted its focus to energy assets.
