Irish police social media accounts hacked to promote cryptocurrency

According to BBC reports, multiple X platform accounts operated by An Garda Síochána (Irish police) were hacked, including @GardaTraffic, which has 600,000 followers, and @GardaInfo, with nearly 300,000 followers. Hackers removed the accounts' original branding information and posted cryptocurrency promotional content, while also altering the account location to Amsterdam. Some posts were flagged by the platform as being associated with previously banned accounts. Irish police have been contacted for comment, and the investigation remains ongoing.
