European Union plans to ban chatbots from simulating emotions toward minors

According to WIRED, the EU plans to pass the AI Kids Act, prohibiting chatbots such as ChatGPT, Character.ai, and Snapchat My AI from simulating emotions or interpersonal relationships when interacting with users under 18, aimed at preventing minors from developing emotional dependencies on AI. The legislation will impose strict restrictions on chatbot features targeted at underage users, directly targeting the core experience designs that currently foster user "addiction."
