U.S. SEC Chair: Advancing 24-Hour U.S. Stock Trading; Tokenization May Facilitate Real-Time Inventory Management
US SEC Chair Paul S. Atkins released remarks from a roundtable meeting, noting that the SEC is advancing preparations to expand 24-hour trading for the U.S. stock market. Extending trading hours is expected to enable investors to respond more swiftly to market events, broaden global market participation, and enhance liquidity. Mr. Atkins pointed out that the DTCC has already deployed its 23x5 trade capture system to support clearing and settlement. The industry has also established overnight price ranges and risk control requirements for relevant trading centers. The Security Information Processor (SIP) is currently preparing for overnight price dissemination, while tokenization is anticipated to help the securities industry achieve real-time inventory management, improve efficiency, reduce settlement failures, and lower naked short selling risks.
