According to Coinbase's official blog, Coinbase's Global Intelligence Team participated in a joint enforcement operation from October 6 to 9, hosted by the UK's National Crime Agency (NCA) and the U.S. Department of Justice Fraud Center Task Force. In collaboration with the Tech Against Scams alliance and multiple national law enforcement agencies, the initiative launched a coordinated strike against West African criminal fraud networks.
During the operation, Coinbase tracked illicit fund flows, froze fraud-linked assets, and shared intelligence with law enforcement agencies in real time. Prior joint operations targeting Southeast Asian fraud syndicates have already proven the effectiveness of cross-industry collaboration. With criminal networks expanding into West Africa, this operation aims to prevent them from establishing new footholds.
The fraudulent tactics employed include fake cryptocurrency investment schemes, impersonation of law enforcement officials, and fabricated video arrests, all designed to deceive victims into transferring funds. Coinbase stated that it will continue to collaborate with the alliance and law enforcement agencies to maintain sustained pressure on these criminal networks.
