Aptos Officially Announces the MonoMove Upgrade Plan, Boosting Smart Contract Execution Speed by Up to 55x
Aptos officially announced the launch of a brand-new execution engine, MonoMove, describing it as the largest scalability upgrade in the history of the Aptos network, aimed at improving the execution efficiency and security of on-chain financial transactions.
According to test data published by Aptos Labs, in tests that replayed real mainnet transactions from Decibel, MonoMove delivered a significant improvement in execution speed compared to the existing Move virtual machine. Specifically, collateral withdrawals were accelerated by up to 55x, vault requests by up to 40x, perpetual market requests by up to 38x, and order submissions by up to 22x. Furthermore, internal benchmark tests simulating complex financial workflows demonstrated an end-to-end throughput increase of up to 11x.
MonoMove is currently being integrated into the Aptos execution engine, with full feature development expected to be completed by the end of 2026. Deployment on the mainnet is planned for 2027, pending approval via governance voting. All aforementioned performance metrics are derived from test environments and do not yet reflect actual mainnet operational results.
