Lagarde: Eurozone economy shows resilience, digital euro nears launch

Source: cointelegraph.com Event types: Regulation/Compliance
According to Cointelegraph, ECB President Lagarde stated at the IMF annual meeting held on Saturday that the Eurozone's inflation rate in September was 3.8%, primarily driven by high energy costs. The ECB expects energy costs to ease next year, but the energy shock will still keep Eurozone inflation above the target level in the first half of 2027, making a moderate policy response appropriate. Lagarde also noted that the ECB is preparing the digital euro to complement cash and meet everyday payment needs. She added that the digital euro will further stimulate innovation and competition in the retail payments sector and ensure the coexistence of public and private payment schemes, supporting Europe's strategic autonomy in payments.
