According to sources cited by IT Home, Google's DeepMind team will no longer pursue frontier model development, instead focusing on more cost-effective Flash-level models. As the restructuring progresses, the team may face large-scale layoffs of up to 1/3 or higher, primarily streamlining redundant personnel hired for algorithm roles but not engaged in algorithm work. Previously, Alphabet announced the restructuring of DeepMind on August 5, with Hassabis stepping down as CEO to become Chairman.
