According to the Daily Mail, the Inner London Crown Court recently issued a ruling on a kidnapping and extortion case targeting cryptocurrency billionaires. Two wealthy French cryptocurrency billionaires (both in their 20s) were ambushed by a gang while visiting London, detained for over 52 hours, during which they suffered torture including having boiling water poured on them, cigarette burns, and being tied up and beaten, and were forced to transfer $30,000 worth of cryptocurrency. The prosecution pointed out that the victims flaunted their wealth extensively on social media, which may have attracted the attention of criminals.
Ultimately, Gerson Borges and Mohamed Osman were found guilty of conspiracy to extort and false imprisonment, while Julius George, Isaac Bakoya, and William Adebisi were found guilty of false imprisonment. The Metropolitan Police Flying Squad (Flying Squad) successfully rescued the hostages through mobile phone location tracking and CCTV tracking, and arrested some suspects after a high-speed car chase. The mastermind behind the scenes, "Nino" (Ibrahim Mohamed), remains at large.
