NYU Math Professor: Still Uses Anthropic and OpenAI, but Won't Feed Original Ideas
According to a CNBC interview with NYU mathematics professor Tristan Buckmaster relayed by Rohan Paul, Buckmaster stated that he continues to use tools such as Anthropic, OpenAI, and Codex, but will not input any ideas he considers original into them. The report comes against the backdrop of OpenAI releasing 722 AI-generated mathematics papers, sparking unease among professional mathematicians. Buckmaster noted that while there are infinitely many open problems, the time constraints for Ph.D. and postdoctoral research are finite, and this disparity constitutes a source of pressure.
